Fsas Technologies, a Fujitsu subsidiary, announces a project that will enable companies, research centers and institutions to start experimenting with quantum technologies today, strengthening Spain’s role in the international quantum ecosystem.
Bizkaia reinforces its positioning as a strategic hub for quantum innovation in Spain and Europe with the installation of the first Digital Annealer outside Japan, together with a quantum emulator and other advanced infrastructures, as part of a project led by Fsas Technologies Spain. The initiative is being developed in collaboration with Telefónica and Lantik, within the framework of the public strategy Bizkaia Quantum Advanced Industries (BIQAIN) promoted by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and further consolidates the region as a reference environment for the development, testing and adoption of quantum and quantum-inspired technologies.
The project represents a milestone in the international deployment of these technologies and reinforces Spain’s role as a relevant player within the global quantum computing ecosystem. The new infrastructure will enable companies, research centers and public institutions to experiment from today with advanced solutions applied to areas such as complex optimization, machine learning and the resolution of highly demanding computational problems that are difficult to address using traditional technologies. All activities will take place in a practical, non-commercial environment focused on experimentation, applied innovation and knowledge transfer.
With a five-year duration and an investment of €3.9 million, the initiative aims to prepare Bizkaia’s industrial, scientific and academic ecosystem for the future adoption of quantum solutions, facilitating the development of proofs of concept and reducing technological, economic and access barriers. The project is expected to generate a positive economic, social and environmental impact by fostering innovation, the creation of highly skilled jobs and greater energy efficiency in large-scale computing. With this deployment, Bizkaia and the BasQ ecosystem strengthen their positioning as a quantum reference at both national and European levels and advance their commitment to sustainable, long-term technological innovation.
